The Church endured much persecution during its early years, and in many respects it still does today. This resulted/results a culture of mild paranoia toward outsiders—an idea that if somebody is not with us, they're against us. Such mindsets are manifest in a multitude of ways, including in hymns, pageants, talks, conversations, and actions.
